UPATE NOVEMBER 2011
Another stellar year for tomatoes in our garden.  Butternut squash also came in nicely.  We were less productive with the other crops, but we're learning.  The garded took a back seat to other outdoor projects this summer, but we hope to have a bounce back year in 2012.  Perhaps we can expand the garden space and add a few new crops.

UPDATE MAY 2011
The 2011 planting season is upon us.  This year we have begun prepping our garden by removing about 200 lbs of boulders that were buried about 8 - 10 inches below the surface.

We've got the following crops ready to go:
- Asparagus
- Tomatoes
- Onions
- Potatoes

We may also try to do pumpkins & sunfowers again, as we realized we waited too long to plant them last year.

The installation of a new cedar privacy fence has put a few of our other agricultural projects on a temporary hold for the time being.  We hope that the new fence will add beauty & security to our "farm" as well as keep our animals in.  (two large dogs)

Along with our little Chicago Farm we also have begun composting our yard clippings. We recycle all aluminum, metal, paper, cardboard, and plastic products as well. This greatly reduces the amount of trash we throw out. We conserve water by utilizing a rain barrel.  Our water meter was installed over the winter and we are realizing SIGNIFICANT savings on our water bills.

We need more FARMERS in CHICAGO !

Mayor Daley says, “Urban agriculture has a bright future in Chicago.”  We are hoping Mayor Rahm shares this vision!
